DRDO successfully tested ABHYAS: India on Friday successfully tested a home-developed high-speed expandable aerial target (heat) exercise from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, Odisha. DRDO sources gave this information.
The spacecraft can be used as an air target to evaluate multiple missile systems. Sources said that the functioning of the target vehicle was monitored through telescopes and several sensors including radar and electro-optical surveillance system (ETOS).
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for this successful test. The exercise has been designed and developed by DRDO's Aeronautical Development Institute, Bengaluru. Sources said that it is powered by a gas turbine engine, so that long flights can be made at subsonic speeds.
Also, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is in Bengaluru on a two-day visit. On this occasion, he visited the Aeronautical Development Institute (ADE) on Friday. In this establishment, he flew in the simulator of Tejas, a light fighter made in the country.
