Another political party leader was killed by militants in Jammu and Kashmir. Ghulam Hasan Lone, the leader of his party, was shot dead by militants at the Chancellor's Deosar. Injured Ghulam Hassan was admitted to the hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
So far this year, militants have killed five BJP leaders in the state.
On August 9, BJP sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Dar and his wife Jawahira Banu were stabbed to death in their home in Anantnag in south Kashmir. Two councilors were killed in an attack in Sopore, Baramulla, in March.
On June 2, Rakesh Pandit, chairman of the Municipal Committee Tral, was targeted by militants. Last year, militants targeted six BJP workers. On August 17, Homshalibagh Assembly Speaker Javed Ahmed was also targeted by militants in Kulgam. In addition, civilians, policemen and army personnel also fell victim to terrorists this year.
In addition to the nine civilians, six policemen and an Army jawan were martyred by the militants. More than a dozen BJP leaders and activists have been targeted by militants since the repeal of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. In the year 2020, on August 9, Budgam BJP district president Abdul was shot dead by terrorists during a morning walk.
District president Wasim Bari and his father Bashir Ahmed Sheikh and brother Umar Sultan were killed in Bandipora on July 8, while BJP sarpanch Sajjad Khand in Kulgam on August 6. Kashmiri Pandit Sarpanch Ajay Pandita in Anantnag on June 08 and Budgam BDC president Bhupinder Singh on September 23 were also victims.
