More than 35 people are feared to have been crushed in a landslide in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. The landslide between Nigasori and Chaura has crushed several vehicles, including buses and cars.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Army, National Disaster Reserve Force (NDRF), and local rescue teams, the deputy commissioner of Kinnaur said.
SP Aju Ram Rana said, "As soon as we got the information about the landslide accident on the National Highway, we reached the spot. "Currently, ITBP, police, home guards, and rescue teams have been deployed," he said.
ITBP units 43rd Battalion, 17th Battalion, and 19th Battalion are at the landslide site.
According to the police, several landslides were reported due to continuous rains near Bastari on Sangla-Chitkul, which may have led to a bridge collapse.Providing further details on the landslide, the (ITBP) said that the incident happened at around 12:45pm on the Reckong Peo-Shimla highway in the Kinnaur district. The aforementioned HRCTC bus, a truck, and other vehicles are reported to have come to under the rubble.
